Chick Pea Soup

1lb.2oz. chick peas,1tsp.baking soda(optional),3-4small onions,1/2c.olive oil,juice of one lemon,salt....Soak the chick peas overnight in warm water. The following day drain the chick peas, add the baking soda, stir and rub them well. Rinse the chick peas carefully and place them in a pot with fresh water. Add the onions and bring the pot to the boil skimming with a slotted spoon, until the water is clear. Cover the pot and continue cooking for 2-2 1/2 hours over a low flame. Finally, pour in the oil, season to taste and continue cooking until the chick peas are soft. Sprinkle the individual servings with lemon juice and serve.
